It slammed into the mountainside in a frightening jolt and skidded down it like a giant sled. The snow that engulfed the plane was a polar blizzard. Then a rumble came and the glacier that we were skidding over was cracking. The plane crashed into the forest at highway speeds and collapsed all the seats and caused luggage to rain from the carry on lockers. Eventually the two minutes of skidding was over but it felt like years. The plane was a smoldering wreck. The whole back end had been wrecked and it smelled of dead corpses. The tail was gone and it must have been decimated and fallen far beyond the horizon. Emergency salvaging was needed. We needed to get as much as possible before the fuel vapour ignites and obliterates anything within a mile.”I will salvage as much as possible into our bags and Kaila you’ll collect water from the glacial rivers”. Then we will make shelter for the night. Deep in the bush in a clearing I met with Kaila. A smoldering plane was in the distance and a trail of destruction as far as the eye can see. Here we will make a camp. Easily spotable by air traffic, good water supply and no dense bush. Dinner was nearing. The salvaged airline meals would suffice but they lacked fruit and veggies. There was enough for 4 days but the fruit and veggie would have to
